Module assembly area

B4. Shipbuilding, Materials, Sea Trials, Retrofits and Recycling

Definition

Yard area for outfitting modules.

The module assembly area is the part of the yard where outfitting modules, prefabricated assemblies of piping, machinery, cable trays, and structure, are built up before they are installed into hull blocks or set onto a deck. Building these modules at ground level on dedicated stands is faster and safer than fitting the same equipment piecemeal inside a confined block, and it lets outfitting run in parallel with steel erection. On FPSO and offshore work the area builds the process topside modules that are later loaded out and lifted onto the hull. Module weight and dimensions are set by the crane or SPMT that will move them.
