Mooring analysis
C4. Ports, terminals and coastal/marine civil engineeringDefinition
Static and dynamic mooring analysis per OCIMF and PIANC.
Mooring analysis evaluates whether a ship’s mooring arrangement holds it safely at the berth against wind, current, waves, passing ships, and tidal range. A static analysis checks line and fitting loads against breaking loads and safe working loads under a steady environmental case; a dynamic analysis captures the ship’s motion response to waves, swell, and gusts. OCIMF MEG4 is the tanker and gas-carrier reference; PIANC guidance covers the berth side. Long-period swell and passing-ship surge are the usual drivers of mooring failures.
