Multipurpose Support Vessel (MPSV)

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

Versatile offshore support ship.

A multipurpose support vessel (MPSV) is a DP2 offshore vessel that switches between roles: subsea construction, ROV survey and IMR, light well intervention, well stimulation, and accommodation, by reconfiguring deck spreads rather than serving one fixed function. It carries an offshore crane (often AHC), a large clear deck, moonpool, and ROV hangars. The MPSV sits between the larger offshore construction vessel and the smaller platform supply vessel, trading peak lift and pipe-lay capacity for flexibility across a field’s life. The label is commercial rather than a class notation; capability is defined by crane SWL, DP class, and ROV fit.
