OCV (Offshore Construction Vessel)

E4. Cruise, offshore energy and auxiliary/specialised fleets

Definition

Heavy-lift/subsea-construction vessel.

An offshore construction vessel (OCV) is a large DP2 or DP3 vessel built for subsea field development: installing manifolds, structures, flexibles, umbilicals, and rigid pipe, and supporting saturation diving and work-class ROVs. It carries a high-SWL active-heave-compensated crane, a deep moonpool, a carousel or reel for flexible product, and large below-deck and deck storage. OCVs handle the heavier, deeper installation scopes that an MPSV cannot, short of the dedicated pipe-lay or semi-submersible crane vessels. Station-keeping follows IMCA M 103 and IMO MSC.1/Circ.1580 DP class requirements.
