Muster List

The muster list assigns every crew member an emergency station and duty, and sets out the alarm signals and abandon-ship procedure. SOLAS III/8 requires it on all ships before the vessel proceeds to sea, posted in conspicuous places including the bridge, engine room, and accommodation. It specifies the general emergency alarm, the public address details, the action on each signal, substitutes for key personnel, and how the abandon-ship order is given. On passenger ships it is drawn up in the flag state’s language and in English. The list is exercised through the drills required by SOLAS III/19 and verified at survey.
