Naval Strike Group
E2. Naval, defence and maritime law enforcementDefinition
Surface-action group focused on strike warfare.
A surface formation organized around offensive strike, typically a surface action group of guided-missile cruisers and destroyers carrying Tomahawk land-attack missiles in their Mk 41 vertical launching systems, tasked with delivering precision fires against shore or surface targets. It differs from a carrier strike group in lacking a carrier and its air wing, relying instead on missile firepower from the surface combatants. The term is descriptive of mission rather than a fixed US Navy administrative organization.
