SAG (Surface Action Group)

A group of surface combatants, typically guided-missile cruisers (CG) and destroyers (DDG), formed to conduct anti-surface, anti-air, or strike operations independent of a carrier. The SAG concentrates the firepower of multiple ships under one tactical commander (the officer in tactical command) and relies on its own sensors, Aegis air defense, and Mk 41 vertical launching systems for offense and defense. It can operate as a screen for a high-value unit or as a stand-alone strike or escort element.
