Onshore Power Supply
X67. Marine Electrical Systems and Shore PowerDefinition
European term for shore power equivalent to AMP and cold ironing.
Onshore power supply (OPS) is the European term for shore power, the shore-to-ship electrical connection that lets a berthed ship turn off its diesel auxiliaries and draw grid power, equivalent to cold ironing and the US alternative maritime power. The EU Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation requires core TEN-T ports to provide OPS for container and passenger ships by 2030, paired with the FuelEU obligation on those ships to use it. Systems follow IEC/IEEE/ISO 80005, with high-voltage shore connection sized to the ship’s hotel and reefer load.
