Passage Plan Auto-Update

E3. Technology, digitalization and smart shipping

Definition

Software-driven dynamic re-routing.

A function in ECDIS or a route-management system that revises an active voyage plan automatically as conditions change, for example re-timing legs against updated tidal and current data (S-104/S-111), inserting new no-go areas from navigational warnings (S-124), or recomputing under-keel clearance (S-129). SOLAS V Regulation 34 and IMO resolution A.893(21) require a berth-to-berth passage plan; auto-update keeps it current but does not relieve the master of appraisal and approval. It is a core e-navigation benefit under MSC.1/Circ.1595.
