C4. Ports, terminals and coastal/marine civil engineering

Definition

Harbour Approach Channels Design Guidelines.

PIANC WG121, Harbour Approach Channels: Design Guidelines (2014), is the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure report that sets the framework for sizing navigation channels. It defines a two-tier approach: a Concept Design method that builds channel width and depth from additive factors for the design ship and the environment, and a Detailed Design method using real-time bridge or fast-time ship simulation. It governs channel width, depth allowances for squat and wave response, bend widening, and bank clearance.
