Pinta, Santa Maria, Nina Replicas

These are sailing reproductions of the three ships of Christopher Columbus’s first transatlantic voyage of 1492: the Santa Maria, a nao (carrack) that served as flagship and wrecked off Hispaniola on Christmas Eve 1492, and the smaller caravels Pinta and Nina. Replicas have been built for anniversaries and museums, notably the 1892 Spanish set and the 1992 quincentenary vessels, and several tour as floating exhibits. Built to period rigs of square and lateen sails, they recreate late-fifteenth-century Iberian construction.
