Position list
C1. Commercial shipping, chartering, economics and financeDefinition
List of vessels available for fixture.
A position list is a broker’s circular of vessels open for fixture, stating for each ship the open date, open port or area, size and type, and last cargo. Chartering desks match the position list against cargo orders to find the best-fitting ship by laycan and geography. The list separates prompt positions (open now or within days) from forward positions and flags engaged tonnage as it gets fixed. It is the supply side of the market that brokers circulate daily alongside cargo lists and fixture reports.
