PureSOx (Alfa Laval)
B2. Marine EngineeringDefinition
Open/closed-loop exhaust gas scrubber.
PureSOx is Alfa Laval’s marine exhaust-gas cleaning system (SOx scrubber) that sprays alkaline water through the engine and boiler exhaust to remove sulfur oxides, letting a ship burn high-sulfur fuel and still meet MARPOL Annex VI Regulation 14. It runs open-loop on seawater alkalinity, closed-loop on caustic-dosed fresh water with a bleed-off treatment for zero-discharge zones, or hybrid switching between the two, all to the equivalent of the 0.50% global and 0.10% ECA sulfur limits. At sea since 2009, it is certified to the IMO scrubber guidelines MEPC.184(59) and their successors.
