Quayside crane

A quayside crane is any cargo-handling crane working on the berth face, the category covering the rail-mounted ship-to-shore (STS) container crane and the mobile harbor crane that moves on rubber tires along the apron. The STS type is dedicated to container work through a spreader; the mobile harbor crane is a slewing jib crane that switches between a hook, grab, and spreader to handle general cargo, bulk, and containers at multipurpose berths, with lift capacities of roughly 40 to 150 tonnes. Both impose heavy wheel or outrigger loads on the quay structure and apron pavement, which the deck and crane-rail beams must carry. Quay crane outreach and rail gauge set the served ship beam.
