Radar Plot Extractor

E3. Technology, digitalization and smart shipping

Definition

Software converting raw radar into tracks.

A signal-processing function that converts raw radar video into discrete target plots, then tracks, for automatic tracking and integration with VTS and AIS. The extractor thresholds returns, removes clutter and sidelobes, and groups echoes into a single positional plot with range and bearing, which a tracker associates frame to frame into a course-and-speed track. It is the front end of ARPA and of shore VTS radar processing. Performance feeds the tracking accuracy required by IMO Resolution MSC.192(79) for shipborne radar.
