Range Pole

A range pole is a graduated survey rod, usually striped red and white in fixed bands, held vertical over a point as a sighting target or a GNSS antenna mount. In shoreline and topographic survey work supporting hydrography it carries the RTK GNSS receiver or the prism for a total station, and its known length adds to the antenna height to reduce the measurement to the ground point. The pole is plumbed with a bubble level so the position is vertically over the mark. It links the waterline and coastal detail to the same geodetic frame as the offshore soundings.
