Recognised Organisation
F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and InstitutionsDefinition
Class society delegated statutory work by a flag state.
A recognized organization is a classification society or other body that a flag state authorizes to carry out statutory surveys and certification on its behalf under SOLAS Chapter I and the IMO Recognized Organizations Code. The RO Code, adopted by Resolutions MEPC.237(65) and MSC.349(92) and in force from 2015, sets the standards a flag state must apply when delegating SOLAS, MARPOL, and Load Line work. IACS member societies perform the bulk of this delegated statutory work.
