A classification society surveyor inspects ships, machinery, and materials against the rules of a class society, certifying that a vessel is built and maintained to standard and remains in class. Surveyors of an IACS member society also perform statutory work delegated by flag states as a recognized organization, including SOLAS, MARPOL, and Load Line surveys. The role demands an engineering or naval-architecture background and a structured in-house qualification.
