Recognized organization

An RO, a classification society or other body the flag state authorizes to carry out statutory surveys and certification on its behalf, under the IMO RO Code. The flag delegates SOLAS, MARPOL, and Load Line survey work to the RO but retains responsibility; the RO issues the convention certificates and reports back. Most flags delegate to IACS member societies. Poor RO performance, measured through PSC detentions, can cost a society its delegation.
