Skilled trade in standing and running rigging.
A skilled trade worker who fits, maintains, and works a ship’s rigging: the standing rigging (shrouds, stays, and supporting wires) and the running rigging (the lines and falls that move spars, derricks, and lifting gear). Ashore, riggers at shipyards and terminals set up lifting and slinging arrangements for heavy-lift and project cargo, certify and inspect lifting appliances and loose gear, and rig staging and access. The trade applies the SOLAS Chapter VI cargo-gear requirements and ILO Convention No. 152 standards for lifting-appliance testing and marking.
