The Royal Institution of Naval Architects, founded in London in 1860, is the international professional body for naval architects and others in ship and marine design and construction. RINA holds a Royal Charter, registers chartered engineers, publishes the journal The Naval Architect, and contributes to IMO technical work as a consultative non-governmental organization. Membership is the standard professional credential for a naval architect.
