Side-Stone Dumping Vessel

A side-stone dumping vessel places rock on the seabed by discharging it over the vessel’s side, used where broad coverage matters more than pinpoint accuracy: shore approaches, breakwater and bund cores, and shallow-water pipeline and cable cover. Lacking the controlled flexible fall pipe of a fall-pipe vessel, it gives a wider, less precise footprint and is limited to shallower depths because the rock plume spreads with depth and current. The choice between side-dumping and fall-pipe placement is driven by required accuracy, water depth, and proximity to sensitive subsea assets.
