SOLAS V/22

SOLAS Chapter V Regulation 22 fixes the navigation bridge visibility standard so the conning officer can see the working environment of the ship. The view of the sea surface from the conning position must not be obscured by more than two ship lengths or 500 meters, whichever is less, from the bow to 10 degrees on either side, in all conditions of draft, trim, and deck cargo. The horizontal field of view from the conning position must span at least 225 degrees, and the bridge wings must give a view down the ship’s side. Blind sectors from cargo or masts may not exceed 10 degrees individually, with the total capped. The rule shapes loaded trim, deck-cargo height, and bridge placement.
