Definition

Biennial Los Angeles to Honolulu offshore race since 1906.

The Transpacific Yacht Race, or Transpac, is a 2,225-nautical-mile offshore race from Point Fermin off Los Angeles to Diamond Head, Honolulu, organized by the Transpacific Yacht Club. First sailed in 1906 and now held in odd-numbered years, it is one of the oldest ocean races and runs largely downwind on the Pacific trade winds. It races keelboats across handicap divisions, with maxi yachts chasing the elapsed-time record to Hawaii.
