Ultra-Deepwater Drillship

A dynamically positioned drillship rated for the deepest offshore wells, generally water depths beyond 7,500 ft (about 2,300 m), with some seventh-generation units rated to 12,000 ft. It carries dual-derrick or high-capacity single-derrick drilling packages, large variable deck load, and high-pressure mud and BOP systems for long riser strings. Ultra-deepwater is the segment above the deepwater band; the cut-off near 7,500 ft is an industry convention rather than a regulatory limit. These are MODUs under the IMO MODU Code.
