Drillship

A drillship is a mobile offshore drilling unit built on a ship-shaped hull with a derrick over a central moonpool, giving it the transit speed and deck space a semi-submersible lacks. Deepwater and ultra-deepwater drillships hold station by dynamic positioning rather than mooring, working in water depths beyond 3,000 meters. The ship form suits long-range relocation between remote prospects. Drillships are constructed and equipped to the IMO MODU Code.
