A vessel examiner is a US Coast Guard official or auxiliarist who inspects vessels for compliance with safety standards, from commercial inspection under 46 CFR to the courtesy examination of recreational craft. The role checks documentation, equipment, and condition against the applicable regulations, and on commercial ships feeds the Certificate of Inspection. It overlaps with the broader government marine inspector function.
