Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF Guidelines)

The Voluntary Guidelines for Securing Sustainable Small-Scale Fisheries (SSF Guidelines) are an FAO instrument endorsed by the Committee on Fisheries in 2014, the first international instrument dedicated to small-scale fisheries. They set principles and guidance on responsible tenure and resource access, social development and decent work, value chains and post-harvest, gender equity, disaster risk and climate change, and the human-rights-based approach. Aimed at the roughly 90 percent of capture fishers in small-scale operations, they complement the Code of Conduct and inform SDG target 14.b on access for small-scale fishers.
