F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and SportDefinition
Former name of The Ocean Race.
The Volvo Ocean Race was the name of the crewed, fully professional round-the-world race from 2001 to 2018, carrying the lineage of the Whitbread Round the World Race (1973). Sailed in stages over roughly 38,000 to 45,000 nautical miles with port stopovers, it used one-design Volvo Ocean 65 monohulls in its later editions. Volvo took title sponsorship in 2001; the event was renamed The Ocean Race from 2019. It is offshore crewed racing’s premier round-the-world circuit.
