Sailing Yacht

F4. Recreational Boating, Yachting and Sport

Definition

Vessel propelled primarily by sail.

A sailing yacht is a vessel propelled primarily by sail and used for pleasure, cruising, racing, or charter, as distinct from a motor yacht. The type runs from small day-sailing keelboats and trailer-sailers up to ocean-going cruiser-racers and superyachts. In the EU market a sailing yacht of 2.5 to 24 meters is regulated as recreational craft under Directive 2013/53/EU and assigned a design category, and offshore racing yachts are rated under IRC or ORC and must meet the Offshore Special Regulations.
