WCPFC

The Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) is the tuna RFMO for the western and central Pacific Ocean, established under the 2000 convention in force since 2004. It manages the world’s largest tuna fisheries, primarily skipjack, yellowfin, bigeye, and South Pacific albacore, through conservation and management measures that include purse-seine effort limits via the Vessel Day Scheme, FAD closures, high-seas pocket controls, and bigeye catch limits. The WCPFC coordinates with the IATTC on overlapping eastern Pacific stocks and draws scientific advice from the Pacific Community (SPC) and its Scientific Committee.
