Welsh Maritime Industries

F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and Institutions

Definition

National industry body.

Welsh maritime industries cover the shipping, ports, marine energy, fishing, and heritage sectors of Wales, centered on ports such as Milford Haven (a major UK oil and LNG terminal handling around a fifth of UK seaborne energy trade), Cardiff, Newport, Port Talbot, and Holyhead. Tidal-stream and floating-wind projects in the Celtic Sea are a growing segment. Maritime heritage is preserved at sites including the Welsh maritime heritage centre. Wales lacks a single statutory “national industry body”; the sector is represented through UK and regional clusters and Welsh Government economic programs.
