WinGD X-DF-A

B2. Marine Engineering

Definition

Ammonia dual-fuel two-stroke engine.

The WinGD X-DF-A is a two-stroke, low-speed, dual-fuel engine from WinGD that burns ammonia by high-pressure injection on the diesel principle, with a pilot oil dose of about 5% at full load to ignite the charge. Because it runs the diesel cycle in both ammonia and fuel-oil mode, it shares the rating field and cylinder configurations of WinGD’s diesel engines. Test running showed ammonia emissions below 10 ppm and N2O below 3 ppm without an ammonia-slip catalyst. The first engine entered service as the X52DF-A, with an early order book of around 30 across gas, bulk, tanker, and container segments. It contrasts with the low-pressure Otto-cycle X-DF for LNG.
