Yard planner
C3. Logistics, freight forwarding and multimodal tradeDefinition
TOS module for container yard planning.
A yard planner is the terminal staff member, and the TOS module they work in, who decides where each container is stacked in the container yard and how the stacks are organized for efficient retrieval. The plan groups boxes by category (export by vessel and discharge port and weight, import by line and dwell, empties by type, reefers near power, dangerous goods in segregated areas) to cut rehandles when units are loaded or gated out. The planner sizes blocks for the handling equipment in use, RTG, RMG, straddle carrier, or reach stacker, and balances yard density against move productivity. Poor yard planning forces unproductive shuffles that slow vessel and gate operations.
