Zorzi Maritime Codex

The Zorzi codex is a mid-fifteenth-century Venetian maritime manuscript, a zibaldone compiled around 1444 to 1449 by Zorzi di Nicolo (Giorgio Timbotta of Modon), a galley trumpeter in Venetian service. Held in the British Library as Cotton MS Titus A XXVI, it records the geometric proportions and procedures Venetian shipwrights used to lay out galley and round-ship hulls, alongside cargo, astronomical, and miscellaneous notes. With the related Michael of Rhodes manuscript, it is a primary source for medieval Mediterranean shipbuilding by eye and proportion.
