Definition

International Code of Signals letter Z, meaning "I require a tug."

Zulu is letter Z of the International Code of Signals and means “I require a tug.” The flag is divided into four triangles meeting at the center, black at the hoist, yellow at top, blue at the fly, and red at the bottom. Hoisted singly it calls for towage assistance. From a fishing vessel working close to others, Zulu instead means “I am shooting nets,” one of the Code’s fishing-specific single-letter meanings.
