Asbagencies

ASBAGENCIES is the BIMCO codeword for the FONASBA Standard Liner and General Agency Agreement, the 2001 standard contract between a liner principal and its port agent. FONASBA is the Federation of National Associations of Ship Brokers and Agents; the form was approved by BIMCO. It sets the agent’s duties, remuneration, handling of freight and disbursements, and indemnity for actions taken on the principal’s instructions. The 2001 edition merged the earlier separate Standard and General Liner Agency Agreements. Later BIMCO/FONASBA forms followed: the Agency Appointment Agreement (2017) for a single call and the General Agency Agreement (2017) for long-term appointments.
