A shipbroker is the intermediary who matches cargo to ships in chartering, or buyer to seller in the sale and purchase of vessels, earning commission on the fixture. The role spans dry-cargo and tanker chartering, sale and purchase (S&P), and newbuilding contracts, working the negotiation between owners and charterers. Professional standing is recognized through the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers and the FONASBA standard agency agreements.
