Australian Maritime Safety Authority Training Standards

F3. Seafaring Life, Education, Professions and Institutions

Definition

National seafarer certification scheme.

The seafarer certification framework run by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA), Australia’s flag and port-state regulator. Decisions on certificates of competency are made under Marine Order 70 (Seafarer certification) 2014, Marine Order 71 (Master and deck officers) 2023, Marine Order 72 (Engineer officers) 2014, and Marine Order 73 (Ratings) 2014. Australia is a party to STCW 1978 (as amended Manila 2010), so its certificates map to STCW competence standards; training is delivered by registered training organizations and assessed by AMSA.
