Baltic Handysize Index

BHSI, sub-index for Handysize dry bulk tonnage.
The Baltic Handysize Index (BHSI) is the Baltic Exchange sub-index for Handysize dry-bulk tonnage, launched in 2007 and benchmarked since 2 January 2020 on a 38,000 dwt vessel. It is built from seven timecharter routes with route weightings that produce a timecharter average in dollars per day from daily panelist assessments. The BHSI was removed from the Baltic Dry Index on 1 March 2018, when the BDI moved to a 40 Capesize, 30 Panamax, 30 Supramax weighting, so it no longer feeds the headline index. Handysize FFAs settle against the BHSI timecharter average. The geared Handysize works minor bulks and ports too small for larger classes.
