Baltic Supramax Index
C1. Commercial shipping, chartering, economics and financeDefinition
BSI, sub-index for Supramax dry bulk tonnage.
The Baltic Supramax Index (BSI) is the Baltic Exchange sub-index for Supramax dry-bulk tonnage, rebenchmarked in 2017 to a 58,328 dwt vessel and built from ten timecharter routes weighted by estimated trade volume. The 10TC average is published daily in dollars per day from panelist assessments. The BSI carries 30 percent of the Baltic Dry Index since 1 March 2018, when the index moved to a 40 Capesize, 30 Panamax, 30 Supramax split. Supramax FFAs settle against the BSI 10TC. The geared Supramax serves minor bulks and shorter routes, so the BSI tracks a broader cargo mix than the larger classes.
