Barge (Deck Cargo)

A non-propelled flat-decked barge used to carry project, heavy-lift, or oversized cargo that will not fit a containerized or general-cargo ship. It rides on a continuous deck with no hold, secured by lashings and seafastening welded to the deck, and is moved by a tug on a towline or in a pushed unit. Cargo securing and the ocean tow follow the towing vessel’s approved towage plan and the warranty surveyor’s requirements; the unit is loaded by crane, ro-ro ramp, or float-on. Functionally identical to a deck cargo barge.
