Deck Cargo Barge

A non-propelled flat-top barge that carries cargo on an open deck with no hold, moved by a tug on a towline or pushed astern. Modules, transformers, vessels, vehicles, and bulk in skips ride on the deck and are seafastened by welded grillage and lashings designed for the ocean tow. The towage plan, motion criteria, and seafastening are set by a marine warranty surveyor against the route’s design environment. Identical in function to a barge described as deck cargo; loading is by crane, skidding, ro-ro ramp, or float-on, float-off.
