Bridge Access Control

E1. Maritime security, geopolitics and risk

Definition

Restricted entry to navigation bridge per SSP procedures.

Bridge access control restricts entry to the navigation bridge to authorized persons through procedures set in the ship security plan, protecting navigation, communications, and command from interference or seizure. ISPS Code Part A Section 9.4.2 requires the SSP to establish measures preventing unauthorized access to restricted areas; Part B paragraph 9.18 lists the bridge among areas that may be designated restricted. Controls escalate by security level: routine identification at MARSEC level 1, tighter limits at level 2, and access suspended or guarded at level 3.
