Bridge resource management
C2. Ship operations, crewing and technical managementDefinition
BRM, team-based bridge watchkeeping discipline.
BRM, the team-based discipline that treats the bridge watch as a coordinated team using all available resources, human and technical, to maintain situational awareness and catch single-point errors before they cause a casualty. It draws on aviation crew resource management: clear roles, closed-loop communication, challenge-and-response, and managing workload and fatigue. STCW makes BRM and engine-room resource management mandatory training elements for officers.
