Cable-Lay Telemetry

Cable-lay telemetry is the real-time monitoring of the parameters that govern safe installation of a subsea power or telecom cable: pay-out tension and speed, residual bottom tension, touchdown position, departure angle, water depth, and remotely operated vehicle position, fed from the cable engine, tensioners, and dynamic-positioning system into the survey suite. The aim is to keep tension and bend radius inside the cable’s minimum-bend-radius and design-load limits so the product is not damaged on the seabed. Touchdown-monitoring ROVs and survey spreads verify lay against the route plan during the campaign.
