SOLAS Chapter II-1 covers construction, subdivision and damage stability, machinery, and electrical installations. Part B-1 sets the probabilistic damage-stability standard for passenger and cargo ships, expressed as an attained subdivision index that must meet a required index. It also carries watertight integrity, steering gear redundancy, and emergency electrical power requirements.
