Chapter VI (SOLAS)
A2. Maritime safety legislation: SOLAS and its codesDefinition
Carriage of cargoes and oil fuels.
SOLAS Chapter VI, Carriage of Cargoes and Oil Fuels, sets requirements for the safe stowage and securing of cargoes other than liquids in bulk and dangerous goods, plus oil-fuel handling. It makes the IMSBC Code mandatory for solid bulk cargoes (regulation VI/1-1 and part B) and the Grain Code mandatory for grain in bulk (part C), and requires a Cargo Securing Manual approved by the Administration under regulation VI/5. The chapter was restructured by resolution MSC.393(95) to add oil-fuel provisions. It applies to all ships covered by SOLAS Chapter I carrying the relevant cargoes on international voyages.
