CIRM

CIRM, the Comite International Radio-Maritime, is the international trade association of the marine electronics industry, the manufacturers and service providers of shipborne radio and navigation equipment. Founded in 1928 in San Sebastian by companies descended from Marconi’s wireless firm, it now sits close to the IMO in London and holds consultative status as a non-governmental organization at the IMO. CIRM contributes the industry view to IMO and IEC work on equipment standards, type approval, and service networks for SOLAS-mandated radio and navigation gear. The mariner meets CIRM indirectly, through the equipment standards and the radio maintenance and service framework its members operate.
