Definition

Open-source modeling suite for hydrodynamics, morphology, and water quality.

Delft3D is the open-source modeling suite from Deltares for coupled hydrodynamics, waves, sediment transport, morphology, and water quality in coastal, estuarine, and riverine settings. Its FLOW module solves the shallow-water equations on a curvilinear or, in the Flexible Mesh version, unstructured grid, coupled to the SWAN spectral wave model and to sediment and morphodynamic modules that update the bed over time. Delft3D models tidal flow, storm surge, salt intrusion, dredging plumes, and beach and inlet evolution. It is used for port design, coastal-defense assessment, and environmental-impact studies where flow, waves, and seabed change interact.
